Neurodevelopmental Research: Implications for Excellent Caregiver Practices
"I would like the mystery taken out of infant brain development. Give us positive, practical ways to promote healthy brain development in children of all ages who are in our care." - Early Childhood Educator
This research and development project addresses the impact of the new neurodevelopmental (brain) research on best practices in child care through: a) the analysis, synthesis, and dissemination of current neurodevelopmental research, and b) the development and dissemination of accessible resources for best practices. A literature review and resources will be made available to a multisectoral and multidisciplinary audience of researchers, educators, practitioners, governments and other funding bodies for the planning, delivery and evaluation of child care services.
The project targets research on the development of children from birth to age four and will research, identify and describe best practices that create developmentally appropriate conditions for optimal neurological development. Resource kits and train-the-trainer materials will facilitate the dissemination of this information to a multisectoral and multidisciplinary audience so that the increased awareness of this research and the practice implications have far-reaching impacts.
